ITINERARY

We started the day early with a visit to Emanuel Fontes Agricultural Farm – Fontes Farm, “going to the cows” is a unique opportunity to learn about the entire milking process. Arriving at the farm, the cows – friendly animals, intelligent and also stubborn – they approach the milking house in an orderly manner, awaiting Emanuel Fontes’ attention and the respective milking.

Although nowadays milking is done mechanically, it is possible to try milking by hand, and drink the warm milk fresh from the milk bottle udder of the cow. They are, without a doubt, unforgettable experiences, in direct contact with nature and with one of the icons of the Azores: the “happy cows”.

Next, we passed by the Fábrica dos Lourais to observe the milk delivery. We take advantage and take a “jump” to the Parque Florestal da Silveira, where we are located surprised by the small bridges over the river that take us to the old water mills used to grind cereals. At the Francisco Lacerda Museum, we explore Jorgense popular culture, traditions and experiences related to tuna; São Jorge Cheese; the philharmonic, and the famous conductor Jorgense Francisco Lacerda.
